Cleaning was great. I had a couple fillings and I’ve had better jobs done.

I’ve been to several places in Provo and I have hated every dentist that I have gone to. Paul Nielsen and his staff are just great. They have done fillings very well for me, and they are so nice. My wife hates dentists because of an idiot dentist when she was younger and she really appreciates how Paul Nielsen works so friendly and professionally.

I once had to wait longer than expected and although I was simply sitting in a massage chair watching a movie, they still brought me a gift certificate to the University mall to make up for me having to wait. I think they do a wonderful job serving their customers. I have no idea if they are more expensive than other dentists, but I know I love how well they take care of my family.

The staff were horrible. Do they not teach professionalism in “staff school” or wherever they learn “staffing”? There were two receptionists who were whispering in each others’ ears and laughing when I was standing at the counter waiting for Her Royal Highness to help me out. I know there are a million funny things in this world but seriously?

I am very disappointed with Provo Dental Care and Dr. Nielsen in particular. After years of routine checkups with no problems with my teeth (with two different dentists), I ended up at Provo Dental Care due to an insurance change. I left the office reeling. I was told that I had 3 cavities and that my on-lay (a precursor to a crown) needed to be removed and replaced. In addition, I was told that I needed to replace all of my fillings and also wear a mouth guard to bed to help prevent the significant wear that was occurring when I was sleeping.

Needless to say, when I left the office, despite being shocked at what I had just been told and wondering how to pay for it since finances were tight at the time, I decided not to do anything for the time.

In addition to my “diagnosis”, the rest of my family were all told that they had one or more cavities that needed to be filled.

A month or so later, as a result of a job change and insurance change, our family went back to our prior dentist for a checkup. You will be interested to know that none of us were found to have any cavities. The dentist said my prior filings looked great and my teeth looked healthy (this was without me saying anything about my prior experience with Dr. Nielsen and Provo Dental Care).

Unfortunately, we did have my youngest daughter get her cavity filled (fortunately not a permanent tooth). If we had followed through with the treatment, our family would have been out probably a few thousand dollars for no good reason.

I advise you to beware. I will not be going back and would certainly not recommend Dr. Nielsen to anyone (despite the fact that he seems to be a nice person). Sorry for the lengthy review, but I hope it may be of use.

Dr. Moody filled one cavity for me and one for my wife. When he repaired my cavity he did not leave enough space between the teeth and it hurt for weeks until another Dentist figured out what was wrong. My wife starting getting headaches after her appointment and when we went to another dentist he said she was getting headaches because her contact points were way off. Hope this comment helps you. Do not go to Dr. Moody!!!

Absolutely horrible experience! They also told me I had many things wrong with my teeth that weren’t true. I have always gone to my dental check-ups and never had any serious problems. When I went to Provo Dental Care, they told me I had about 10 cavities, periodontal disease and that my bones were deteriorating. It was awful! I had gotten 3 other dentists’ opinions and all of them said my teeth were perfectly healthy I just had one small cavity. It was absolutely ridiculous! I left the appointment crying and feeling totally taken advantage of. I refused to get any treatment done by them since I knew they were lying to me. I can’t believe someone would use their status to take advantage of patients just to pay off their flat screen tvs in the ceiling. I would never ever recommend them to anyone.

I had the same experience as another reviewer. I Went to this office because I saw the coupon for free whitening and needed a new dentist as my previous one moved from the area. I have never had a single cavity in my life and was still with no cavities at the previous 6-month checkup with my other dentist. The office looked really nice, everyone was super friendly. I was a little surprised at how many x-rays they did. When Dr Moody came in he told me I had 6 cavities that needed immediate attention. He pulled up the x-rays and said “Don’t shoot the messenger, but the facts speak for themselves.” He pointed out “shading,” which wasn’t actually very obvious and I think he was counting on the fact that most people don’t know how to properly read x-rays.

The very next day I got into a different dentist as I wanted a second opinion. Dr Moody said he would email the x-rays to the second dentist. I called and they said they would send them that day. The second dentist never got an email so I had all the x-rays re-done.

I had NO cavities! I repeat NO cavities! I don’t feel Dr Moody was honest at all and I felt he kept trying to use sales techniques to convince me I needed work done. It would have cost a lot for all the work, but it would have been horrible to drill in to 6 teeth for no real reason.

When I came home, I mentioned it to our nanny. She immediately described the office and said her family had the same experience with Provo Dental Care and were told they had a lot of cavities. They never went back and checked with another dentist who told them they did not have any cavities.

So conclusion: the office is really nice and so are the people, but I just can’t trust the dentist.

Dr. Nielsen is a total crook. I have never had a filling in my life. I went in for a cleaning and was told I had 3 cavities. Dr. Nielsen quickly filled them. A year later after going to real dentist I found out that the fillings that were done at Provo Dental were so poorly done there was decay under all three of them. We tried to call Provo Dental to let them know how shoddy Dr. Nielsen’s work was and they took no responsibility. DO NOT GO TO PROVO DENTAL THEY ARE TOTAL CROOKS AND THIS SO CALLED DENTIST SHOULD NOT BE PRACTICING DENTISTRY!! PROVO DENTAL DOES SHODDY WORK BECAUSE THEY KNOW MOST OF THEIR CLENTS ARE STUDENTS AND WONT BE AROUND TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM.

I chipped a tooth and read some good reviews about Dr. Neilsen (now I notice they were posted admittedly by his own office staff) – was told I needed a root canal on the chipped tooth because of prior dental work (was also told like many of the others all my old work needed to be redone) so they did the root canal right then “so it didn’t get infected” – or more likely so I didn’t get a second opinion. After they got my mouth propped open with the hanger things and the tarp in there making it hard to breath they left me for 20 minutes to conduct a JOB INTERVIEW!!! Really??? Did the procedure and prescribed me a amoxicillin – which I assumed was what you take when you can’t have penicillin because my chart clearly states I’m allergic. A few pills later feeling very sick and throat almost completely closed off I see that IT IS PENICILLIN!! I called the dr and he didn’t even apologize, just said well then don’t take it. Wow! Went in 3 weeks later to have perm. crown put on that tooth (remember just went in for a chipped tooth) and requested my money back for the whole pen. incident, I just wanted my small co-pay – they could keep the insurance, whatever. They said NO WAY! “The dr did the work and did a good job” I was blown away. The next day the tooth became infected, went to a different dtst who informed me that he would have down things MUCH differently and the crown I paid for was not the kind of crown in my mouth. (I had a VERY cheap version – not the expensive one I was charged for). Fast forward 2 weeks and the crown pops out of my mouth while I’m eating. Yeah – great work Dr. Nielsen!!!

Unfortunately I can’t say enough bad in one comment. Total crooks. Extremely dishonest. My teeth still hurt. Bill came back over 700% higher than the quote. They apologized and said mess ups occur but they still expect to be paid in full. Won’t work with me at all. And did I mention my teeth still hurt?

I was a new patient to this office. I went in for my routine 6 month exam as I was due and wanted to try out a new dentist. My mistake. I didn’t have the clean mouth feeling that I usually get after a cleaning, they’d left plaque around my teeth and told me to brush better.I had cavities I needed to have filled, so scheduled my appointments to do so. I went in and there was nothing personal about them trying to get to know me. I was just another mouth to drill, very clinical, not welcoming at all.So I got the cavities filled and they were completely uneven and not smoothed down, so I couldn’t properly bite down or chew. The next day I went back in and they smoothed them down but the lady blamed my being numb for their lack of smoothing them down so they weren’t jagged, pointy and impossible to chew with or bite down on! I’ve had other fillings done before at another office and never had this problem, so clearly they’re incapable. Now its been 5 days since I had them filled and the pain in my jaw is getting worse, not better. Its now throbbing and hurts to chew anything. I think they really screwed something up. Avoid them, go to Dr. Braithwaite. He’s much better! Oh, and when I was in the chair getting my fillings done, the hygienist kept flirting with the dentist and saying things like, “You get me talking about Cafe Rio and Grey’s Anatomy and I’m all scattered brained. I seriously am, I keep forgetting all the steps here. Melissa, you wanna come take over for me?” Really? That’s professional. NOT! That instills confidence in your skills to not f*ck up my mouth and make a tiny problem of having cavities worse by being ignorant and incapable of working while stupid! Seriously? Avoid them at all cost. Your mouth will thank you for it later! See Dr. Braithwaite, he won’t eff up your mouth! I’ve had him do fillings before and my head isn’t throbbing afterwards, he doesn’t hurt me with the drill and my pain subsides within 24 hours. This pain has seriously worsened til I cannot eat without having to consciously avoid chewing on that side of my mouth. I can’t drink cold beverages, the pain is intense like they exposed a nerve. When I went in to have the dentist fix his screw up by having him smooth down my teeth and fix my bite, the lady who gets scatter brained over Grey’s and Cafe Rio was the one to file them down…so I’m not 100% sure that she didn’t file the fillings too far down or just filed my actual tooth too far down to expose nerve endings!! Seriously, there’s not a real reason why I should be in more intense pain and with the throbbing pain continuing to worsen as the days go on! NEVER EVER had this crap happen to me before EVER anywhere else! I can’t believe I went there to their fancy schmancy office thinking they’d be good enough not to f*ck up a routine fillings appointment. They suck, avoid them! Avoid them! Avoid them! And after reading everyone else’s reviews of this office which are very similar to my own experience with them, I am going to my former dentist tomorrow if possible and having him debunk their saying that I had 10 cavities total needing to be filled! I call BS!! How many of us can have that many cavities? I mean, someone else on this same page of reviews was told she/he had 10 cavities also after previously never having any and being told by their former dentist, like I was, that our teeth were healthy?! YEP! I call Bullcrap and I am not ever going there EVER again! Seriously! Screw the fancy flat screens. Screw the pretty office, I want a great dentist! Dr. Larry Braithwaite is wonderful. Older style of office but who cares about the office…Its the best dentist I’ve EVER been to! Seriously, my teeth and whole right jaw are throbbing. Too much pain! If I’d let them do all they wanted to do on my teeth, I’d be up close to $600 bucks and probably have tooth decay under the shotty fillings I know they put in! I’m having Dr. Braithwaite check the fillings and fix them if need be!
