Location and availability was convenient, but the cleaning was the most painful that I’ve ever had.

I had a bunch of cavities filled here, and the dentist acted like he was doing me a big favor even though the price wasn’t that great.

I was given a list of 20 things that were wrong with my teeth and a cost estimate of over $2500. The sole reason they exist is to milk every penny out of you. I went to another dentist and they gave me an estimate that was $1000 cheaper.

I went to this dentist and was told I had 15 cavities plus I needed a root canal (I get cavities easily and hadn’t been to a dentist in a couple years, but that is ridiculous). I did the root canal but not anything else. I finally went to another dentist (2 years later) and only had 5 cavities. I also might not have needed a root canal. Do not go here. They’re just trying to make as much money as possible off you and don’t care about your personal health. My husband also went here. In his whole life he’s had 1 cavity, but had 4 when he went here.

This was the worst dental experience I’ve ever had. I had a gum graft there and now have to have the surgery re-done by a periodontist to fix what they messed up. This is what the periodontist told me that Dr. Matthews Did wrong: He said that I had an infection. He was stunned by the quality (or rather the lack thereof) of care I received. He said, “Unfortunately in economic times like this, dentists are taking on tasks like these when they really should be referring them to those who have been adequately trained in such treatments. I see this type of thing far too often.” He was shocked that I was not sent home with an antibiotic or narcotics. He was disgusted with the type of sedative used. He said that those means are unsafe because they leave the patient unconscious and out of control whereas by using an IV, it can be controlled I was told that the mouth-guard given me actually harvests more bacteria than it does good. He looked in my mouth and said that this type of surgery performed has not been practiced by trained periodontists for years. The main layer of gum that was cut out is almost always guaranteed to come unattached. I have to have the surgery redone in a month, after the tissue heals. Instead of cutting a chunk of the roof of my mouth off, he will do point incisions like an orthoscopic surgery on a knee instead of a filet. The tissue extracted by those means actually heals better and matches to the gum color better. He said that Dr. Matthews cut past the gum-line into my lip area which will expose the root in a matter of days but worse off it will leave a scar. He said that scars in gums are hard to deal with because it limits the blood supply to that area. He will now have to attempt to fix that as well. I get to take vicodin daily until the gums heal and then I get to have the surgery redone next month. If you want treatment like this, go to Cougar Dental. You can expect a few months recovery and just world of hurt.

Corbin Matthews is my brother-in-law and I am his patient. Corbin did my braces a few years ago and did a very nice job. He has always been professional and taken very good care of me and my family. I am impressed with his skills (having been to many other dentists while I lived out of state). In my experience he is a very skilled dentist and a great guy who is fair with his billing practices.

It is not often enough that I take the time to rave about good service. This is one time I cannot put it off. Dr. Corbin Matthews is not only an extraordinarily talented dentist, he goes above and beyond the call of duty and is the most genuinely caring dentist I have ever been lucky enough to find.

I was referred to Dr. Matthews about 8 years ago. He was kind, caring and painless. It wasn’t until about 4 years ago that I began to truly realize how good he was. Having had extensive dental work as a child, it became obvious that the breakdown of old fillings and crowns needed to be updated. Dr. Matthews suggested and defined what his plan for me would be. It took about a month. In short, today I would say that I get at least 25 complements every month on my teeth. I am told almost daily, what a beautiful smile I have. I can honestly say that my teeth look and feel better than they ever have in my life time.

Because I am asked about my teeth so frequently, I have had many opportunities to recommend Dr. Matthews as a dentist. I recommend him with confidence and excitement. One of my first referrals was an 86 year old grandma that I didn’t know very well, but she loved my teeth. She immediately made and appointment and a few weeks later was showing off her teeth with pride. I just spoke with another friend who said Dr. Matthews is the best dentist he has ever met and that his whole family has now switched.

Today I am prompted to write this review because my son, who lives in another state, was in a great deal of pain with regard to his mouth and didn’t know where to turn. I told him to call Dr. Matthews. He didn’t think he would be available on a weekend or from so far away. Sure enough, ten minutes later my son called me back and said that he had spoken to him personally and was being taken care of and that he would be seeing him in just a few days. I hadn’t seen Dr. Matthews in almost a year, but he then called me just to tell me that he was going to take care of my son! I found out he was on vacation with his family at the time. He is extraordinary, talented and caring! Thank you Dr. Matthews!

I’m not a HUGE fan of visiting the dentist as I haven’t always had good experiences in the past. I knew what treatment I needed but booked the consulation anyway and walked away from that appointment fully aware of the procedure and cost.
I had to have work on my two front teeth (including a root canal); during and after the treament I haven’t been in pain at all. The end result was great and it was the most pleasant dentist visit I have experienced. Dr Matthews even rang my home later in the evening after the procedure to see how I was feeling. I have no hesitation in refering Cougar Dental to anyone looking for a great dentist.

It goes to show you something HUGE…that when a dentist advertises or has to post comments to cover himself after people have attacked him, that he’s got something to hide and attempt to make up for. I bet he’s feeling guilty about screwing a lot of people out of money by doing unnecessary procedures. See Dr. Larry Braithwaite instead here in Provo. He’s amazing, legit and does not screw you out of healthy tooth for unnecessary fillings. He’s very conservative about the work he does do and not like most dentists including Corbin Matthews at Cougar Dental…who are just in it for the money and paying off their flat screens and more.
